Photronics, Micron Sign New Lease

Photronics Inc., a Brookfield, Conn.-based photomask maker, and Micron Technology Inc. have entered into a new operating lease agreement on the NanoFab mask venture and will terminate their original capital lease agreement. In 2006, Photronics and Micron joined forces to establish a technology center to develop and produce photomasks for next-generation semiconductors. Under the new agreement, quarterly lease payments will be reduced from $3.8 million to $2.0 million, and the lease term will be extended from Dec. 31, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2014. All outstanding debts and assets associated with...Read full article

    Glossary
    nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
    photomask
A photomask, also known simply as a mask or reticle, is a key component in the photolithography process used in semiconductor manufacturing and other areas of microfabrication. It is a high-precision plate or glass substrate that carries a pattern of opaque and transparent regions. Photomasks are crucial for transferring intricate patterns onto semiconductor wafers during the photolithography process. The photomask is typically placed in the optical path between a light source and a...
    photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
