BioPhotonics
Aug 2007
Semrock.jpgA manufacturer of optical filters for the biotechnology and analytical instrumentation markets, Semrock Inc. has released its “2007-2008 Catalog.” The 56-page document presents six product families for a variety of applications, including microscopy and fluorescence instrumentation. More than 50 products and five technical notes have been added to the offerings of the previous catalog released in January. Among the new products featured are the Razor-Edge Dichroic beamsplitters for Raman spectroscopy applications and BrightLine items specifically for fluorescence, including microscopy filter sets for quantum dot nanocrystals, for Förster resonance energy transfer imaging, and for near-IR fluorophores, as well as an expanded range of filters and sets for multiband and multiphoton imaging.

GLOSSARY
optical filters
An optical element that blocks or transmits a selected wavelength of light. Optical filters can either be absorption filters or interference filters. Absorption filters absorb any unwanted wavelengths while the interference filter will use the effects of constructive and destructive superposition to transmit only the selected wavelength.
