Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
Gloucestershire Royal Hospital of Cheltenham, UK, and University College London Hospital have agreed to use a medical imaging system from Michelson Diagnostics Ltd. of Orpington, UK, for research into rapid in vivo identification of cervical, esophageal, lung and other cancers. The system, which employs optical coherence tomography, performs real-time visualization of tissue structure below the surface of a scanned organ — a context in which it can yield resolution higher than that obtainable with ultrasound or MRI. The research programs involving the technology began in late March and are expected to last at least four months.
