Invitrogen.jpg“BioProbes 52,” the March issue of a newsletter published by Molecular Probes Inc., includes articles on emerging technologies, such as Click-iT glycoprotein profiling reagents, a Premo cameleon calcium sensor for listening in on cellular communications, and Saivi Alexa Fluor antibody/protein labeling kits for in vivo animal imaging. A section on imaging analysis includes a discussion on the use of fluorescence and chromogenic in situ hybridization to visualize RNA and DNA targets, as well as coverage of fluorescent probes for two-photon microscopy, with applications in neuroscience and other areas. Bioarsenical reagents for live-cell imaging and protein labeling also are covered in the 40-page document, which includes numerous charts, images and references.

Glossary
fluorescence
Fluorescence is a type of luminescence, which is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. Specifically, fluorescence involves the absorption of light at one wavelength and the subsequent re-emission of light at a longer wavelength. The emitted light occurs almost instantaneously and ceases when the excitation light source is removed. Key characteristics of fluorescence include: Excitation and emission wavelengths: Fluorescent materials...
