Varian Medical Systems Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., has signed an agreement to acquire Accel Instruments GmbH of Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, a manufacturer of scientific research instruments and of proton therapy systems for cancer treatment. The former will invest about $30 million to acquire the German company and its debt.
