LightPath, Huanic Ink 2nd Contract

Optical products maker LightPath Technologies Inc. of Orlando, Fla., said it has signed a contract with laser tool manufacturer Huanic Corp. to provide aspheric lenses for Huanic’s laser modules. LightPath will provide short-focal-length aspheric lenses for a new project with applications in laser instruments. This is the second contract to provide such lenses that LightPath and Huanic have signed. “LightPath was able to provide a single-lens solution in high volume that provided a cost and labor savings over traditional spherical doublet and triplet lenses without sacrificing performance,” said Lightpath CEO Jim Gaynor. “Huanic is able to highlight the quality of the optical lens design as a competitive advantage for its products.”

aspheric
Not spherical; an optical element having one or more surfaces that are not spherical. The spherical surface of a lens may be slightly altered so as to reduce spherical aberration. Aspheric surfaces are frequently, but not necessarily, surfaces of revolution about the lens axis.

1. A compound lens consisting of two elements. If there is an air space between the elements it is called an "air-spaced doublet.''
