ThermoElectron.jpgThermo Fisher Scientific has released its “2007 Educational Course Catalog,” which focuses on analytical techniques and provides information on training options for scientists in the company’s instrument and software operation, applications and maintenance. It includes courses throughout the US and Europe that encompass lectures and hands-on workshops for those new to or experienced in the field. A new molecular spectroscopy course covers Nicolet Almega XR Raman spectroscopy operations, while new chromatography and mass spectrometry offerings feature LCQuan quantitative operations analysis under regulatory compliance. An elemental analysis course addresses operation of the iCap 6000 series spectrometers.

raman spectroscopy
Raman spectroscopy is a technique used in analytical chemistry and physics to study vibrational, rotational, and other low-frequency modes in a system. Named after the Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman who discovered the phenomenon in 1928, Raman spectroscopy provides information about molecular vibrations by measuring the inelastic scattering of monochromatic light. Here is a breakdown of the process: Incident light: A monochromatic (single wavelength) light, usually from a laser, is...
