Transforming Metal Oxide Observed

OXFORD, England, Feb. 16, 2010 – An international team, including Oxford University scientists, has been investigating what happens to the top layer of atoms on the surface of a material. The material is strontium titanate – a complex metal oxide that many researchers are interested in because of its ability to split water into hydrogen and oxygen with sunlight, as well as its potential for use in electronic devices. nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
