Laser Drive Acquired by Martek Power
TORRANCE, Calif., July 30, 2010 — Martek Power Inc. has acquired Pennsylvania-based Laser Drive Inc., a producer of power supplies for various laser and light sources, for an undisclosed price. Laser Drive has been rebranded as Martek Power Laser Drive.
The acquisition will give Martek Power a greater presence in the laser and lighting power supply market, where there is significant opportunities for growth, the company said. Martek manufactures custom power supplies and power converters for medical, networking, telecom, data storage, transportation, computing, military/aerospace and other industrial applications.
"Martek Power will help Laser Drive address new market segments that we have not been able to in the past," said Phil Thackray, director of R&D, Laser Drive. Some of its laser products include power supplies for argon, HeNe and diode lasers. Its light products include capacitor charging power supplies for dye and excimer lasers, and power supplies for deuterium, CW arc, tungsten and flash lamps.
