LightPath Completes SBIR Phase II Navy Contract

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 24, 2010 — LightPath Technologies Inc., an optical components and assemblies manufacturer, announced that it has completed a $750,000 Phase II SBIR contract award from the US Navy, under the direction of the Air Force Research Laboratory. The contract created a platform for the company to develop large diameter molded infrared aspheric lenses.     aspheric
    Not spherical; an optical element having one or more surfaces that are not spherical. The spherical surface of a lens may be slightly altered so as to reduce spherical aberration. Aspheric surfaces are frequently, but not necessarily, surfaces of revolution about the lens axis.
    thermal imaging
    The process of producing a visible two-dimensional image of a scene that is dependent on differences in thermal or infrared radiation from the scene reaching the aperture of the imaging device.
