James P. Gormican, president of Composite Optics Inc. of San Diego, accepted the US Small Business Administration's National Small-Business Subcontractor of the Year award for his company, having been nominated by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space. Composite Optics employs 450 and produces precision optics for the space and aerospace markets. The company has been involved in such projects as the Mars Global Surveyor and the International Space Station. It was chosen from among 560 small businesses nominated for this honor.
