Proximion Opens Plant in Sweden

Proximion Fiber Systems AB announced the opening of new production facilities in Kista in response to increased demand for its dispersion compensation modules (DCMs) based on fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs).

The new plant will allow the company to reduce production costs and more efficiently utilize its personnel. In addition, the company said, it will be able to more accurately schedule delivery times and will decrease lead times by nearly 75 percent.

To avoid overtaxing the machines, the company plans to operate them at 80 percent capacity by the second quarter of 2011. It announced that it has already begun to see the effects of the first production lines.

After achieving a 50 percent capacity increase in the fourth quarter 2010, the company announced it continues to build momentum and expects another 50 percent increase during the first half of 2011.

The company has shipped its DCM products since 2003. Based on FBG technology, the DCMs offer low loss, reduced latency and no nonlinear effects when compared to alternate technology. Its FBG-based continuous-band devices provide full, undisrupted compensation throughout the C-band, providing total channel plan and modulation format independence.

Proximion Fiber Systems provides optical modules and subsystems based on FBG technology. Its portfolio includes single-channel modules and complex continuous-band modules that are used to eliminate residual dispersion in submarine networks, or to enable dispersion compensation in coherent systems.
