Grains of ‘nanorice’ may improve spectroscopic techniques

Composite metallic particles shaped like rice grains combine the plasmonic properties of nanorods and nanoshells, suggesting potential applications in surface plasmon resonance and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopies for biomedical diagnostics and pharmacology.
