Dynasil Corp. of Watertown, Mass., has announced that during 2010, its subsidiary, Radiation Monitoring Devices Inc., was granted 11 patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office related to medical imaging applications and new scintillation materials for improved nuclear materials detection. The patents cover technology that can help protect the public against the risk of nuclear terrorism by providing greater sensitivity in security scanning systems. The same technology can also help doctors more accurately locate cancer cells for targeted therapy using higher-resolution medical imaging and lower radiation doses. The patents are expected to enhance Dynasil’s position in the growing security scanning and medical imaging markets. The company manufactures specialized sensors, precision instruments and optical products for the medical, industrial, and homeland security and defense markets.
