Jenoptik Nabs Laser Order

Optoelectronics manufacturer Jenoptik announced it received a €3.3 million ($4.4 million) order for diode-pumped green thin-disk lasers suitable for medical use. This year and next, Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing Div. will deliver the units to an undisclosed German manufacturer.

The company said that since 1999, it has mass-produced approximately 2000 of these medical lasers per year at its Jena site and that more than 13,000 are in use around the world.

Emitting laser light at 532 nm, they are ideally suited for integration into laser therapy systems. They can be applied in the fields of ophthalmology, dermatology, surgery and urology.

Glossary
medical lasers
Medical lasers are devices that produce intense beams of light with specific characteristics and properties, which are used for various medical applications. These lasers emit light in the form of coherent and focused beams, allowing precise control over the energy delivered to tissues. The term "laser" stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation." In the medical field, lasers are employed for diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical purposes. Their applications...
ophthalmology
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eyes and visual system. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of eye disorders and diseases. They are trained to provide comprehensive eye care, including medical, surgical, and optical interventions. Key areas within ophthalmology include: General eye care: Ophthalmologists perform routine eye examinations to assess visual acuity,...
optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is a branch of electronics that focuses on the study and application of devices and systems that use light and its interactions with different materials. The term "optoelectronics" is a combination of "optics" and "electronics," reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of this field. Optoelectronic devices convert electrical signals into optical signals or vice versa, making them crucial in various technologies. Some key components and applications of optoelectronics include: ...
