Jenoptik Nabs Laser Order

Photonics Spectra
Jun 2011
An optoelectronics group based in Jena, Germany, Jenoptik has received a $4.4 million order for diode-pumped green thin-disk lasers suitable for medical use. This year and next, Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing Div. will deliver the units to an undisclosed German manufacturer. The company said that since 1999, it has produced approximately 2000 of the medical lasers annually at its Jena site and that more than 13,000 of them are in use worldwide. Emitting light at 532 nm, the devices are suitable for integration into laser therapy systems. They can be applied in ophthalmology, dermatology, surgery and urology. The Jenoptik Group also supplies optical modules and systems as well as digital microscope cameras for the medical technology market.

The branch of medicine involved in the study of the anatomy, functions, diseases and treatments of the eye.
A sub-field of photonics that pertains to an electronic device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
