Edinburgh Instruments Marks 40 Years
Heriot-Watt University spinout Edinburgh Instruments Ltd., in Scotland, has announced its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1971 by chief scientific officer S. Desmond Smith, OBE Fellow of the Royal Society, it was the first private company in Britain’s first University Research Park. The company recently restructured into two clearly defined business areas, a photonics division and a sensors division, to help accelerate international growth for in-demand products. Besides offering a range of photonic laser and spectroscopy instrumentation, the company continues R&D of gas sensor products.
