Fused fiber optics components maker Incom Inc. announced its expansion into the polymer fiber optics market with the acquisition of Vancouver, Wash.-based Paradigm Optics. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Paradigm Optics makes polymer fiber optic devices. The company will be folded into Incom's operations, which manufacture fiber optics for scientific, medical, defense and life sciences applications. Company President and CEO David Welker will remain as director, working under Incom President and CEO Michael Detarando, Incom said.

"Paradigm's polymer fiber optic technology, in particular, will allow Incom to further service the needs of the homeland security marketplace with biometric identity solutions specifically in the area of ultrasonic fingerprinting," Detarando said. "And we can now service the display industry with polymer-based image guides and transfer devices that enable seamless and dynamic digital displays with tactile feedback."
