In Newton, N.J., Thorlabs has acquired the Octavius line of femtosecond lasers from idesta Quantum Electronics. The company is a member of Thorlabs’ Strategic Partnership Program, which allows startup businesses to leverage Thorlabs’ resources. Thorlabs said that the acquistion will enable it to broaden its portfolio with advanced lasers and diagnostic tools that complement its strengths as a maker of photonic components and imaging systems. The Octavius family, suitable for biological applications, includes ultrafast lasers with 85-MHz and 1-GHz repetition rates and pulse widths of <6 fs. The transfer will enable idesta to focus on developing advanced synchronization and timing distribution products.
