DigitalOptics Corp. of San Jose, Calif., a subsidiary of Tessera Technologies Inc., and MMD Monitors and Displays Taiwan Ltd., a subsidiary of TPV Technology Ltd., have partnered to deliver a computer monitor manufactured by MMD with a built-in ergonomic sensor to help users correct posture. TPV owns part of Philips’ monitor and entry-level flat-screen TV business, and DigitalOptics developed the software used in Philips’ ErgoSensor detection technology. The technology uses the distance between a user’s pupils to determine whether he or she is sitting within the optimal ergonomic zone and, if not, determines how the user can adjust seating position or posture to avoid risk of injury. In addition, the device offers energy savings by powering down when no user is present.
