Edmund Optics to Expand Manufacturing Operations
BARRINGTON, N.J., Oct. 12, 2012 — Edmund Optics will further invest in its domestic manufacturing operations and expand its global coating and asphere optical manufacturing footprint in 2013, the company announced Thursday.
“Despite the current economic environment, our customers have asked for more capabilities and capacity in several core competencies – and we plan to deliver,” said CEO Robert Edmund.
Domestically, Edmund said it will consolidate its Pennsburg, Pa., facility into its corporate headquarters to bring its resources closer to the company’s technical sales, supply chain and product management teams. The operation will now focus on asphere and coating technology and process development, including the creation of a high-precision thin-films lab.
After the consolidation, the company’s global manufacturing footprint will be just over 137,000 sq ft in 2013, up 15 percent from 2007.
The company also will invest in additional coating and metrology equipment for its recently expanded plants in Singapore and Akita, Japan. At these facilities, it will install three-chamber Shincron Coaters for cost-efficient precision coatings, and relocate metrology equipment from the Pennsburg plant.
