Dr. Katherine Bakeev is the new director of analytical services and support at optical spectroscopy and laser systems company B&W Tek Inc. of Newark, Del. She will be responsible for creating and growing a services business unit focused on analytical services and technical support for B&W Tek’s molecular spectroscopy instruments. She will recruit and train a new team to serve as analytical consultants to enhance service and application support for the company’s global customers, with a particular focus on its handheld and portable Raman systems. Most recently, Bakeev served as chief scientist at CAMO Software.


GLOSSARY
molecular spectroscopy
Spectrum analysis concerned with the spectra formed by transitions in molecules.
raman spectroscopy
That branch of spectroscopy concerned with Raman spectra and used to provide a means of studying pure rotational, pure vibrational and rotation-vibration energy changes in the ground level of molecules. Raman spectroscopy is dependent on the collision of incident light quanta with the molecule, inducing the molecule to undergo the change.
