Partnership to Offer Advanced Silicon Photonics
May 2013
MARINA DEL REY, Calif., May 2, 2013 — A partnership between research institutes and a European Union consortium aims to advance silicon photonics production.

Mosis, an integrated circuit small volume production services provider, has partnered with imec of Louvain, Belgium, Tyndall National Institute in Ireland and the European Silicon Photonics Platform (ePIXfab) to advance its silicon photonics production.

“With this collaboration, Mosis will offer its first access to a mature silicon photonics infrastructure, with the option for follow-on production,” said Mosis Director Wes Hansford.

Under the agreement, Mosis customers will have access to imec’s design kit of integrated silicon photonics processes — including low-loss waveguides, grating couplers, silicon electro-optic modulators and germanium waveguide photodetectors — and Tyndall’s advanced silicon photonics packaging technology.

Registration for the first ePIXfab-Europractice run for passive silicon photonics will begin in June, with the design deadline Sept. 9. Mosis’ customers can register and pick up a design kit in June.
