Teem Photonics Names Market Tech as US Distributor

GRENOBLE, France, May 10, 2013 — Passively Q-switched microlaser maker Teem Photonics has appointed Market Tech of Scotts Valley, Calif., as its US distributor, Market Tech announced this week.

Privately held Teem Photonics was founded in 1998 as a spinoff of Schneider Electric. The company’s microlasers and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) are used in industrial and biophotonics applications, such as fluorescence, spectroscopy, seeds for fiber lasers, and supercontinuum generation. Its US subsidiary, Teem Photonics USA, is based in Massachusetts.

Market Tech CEO Philip Crowley said Teem’s passively Q-switched, subnanosecond laser technology “will open up a number of new applications that are not possible with conventional diode-pumped solid-state laser technologies.” Market Tech distributes lasers and optoelectronic systems for industrial and research applications.

Glossary
fluorescence
Fluorescence is a type of luminescence, which is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. Specifically, fluorescence involves the absorption of light at one wavelength and the subsequent re-emission of light at a longer wavelength. The emitted light occurs almost instantaneously and ceases when the excitation light source is removed. Key characteristics of fluorescence include: Excitation and emission wavelengths: Fluorescent materials...
optoelectronic
Pertaining to a device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
solid-state laser
A solid-state laser is a type of laser that uses a solid gain medium (as opposed to a liquid or gas) to produce coherent light. The term "solid-state" refers to the fact that the active medium, where the lasing action occurs, is a solid material. This material is typically a crystalline or glass-like substance doped with specific ions or atoms that can undergo stimulated emission to generate laser light. The basic components of a solid-state laser include: Gain medium: This is the solid...
supercontinuum
Supercontinuum refers to a broad spectrum of light that spans a wide range of wavelengths, typically from the visible to the near-infrared or even mid-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. This phenomenon occurs when intense laser light is coupled into a nonlinear optical medium, such as a photonic crystal fiber or a nonlinear crystal. The process of supercontinuum generation involves nonlinear effects such as self-phase modulation, stimulated Raman scattering, and four-wave...
