DigitalOptics gets first order for smartphone imagers
DigitalOptics Corp. of San Jose, Calif., has received the first volume production purchase order for its mems|cam smartphone imaging system. The module uses MEMS technology to provide fast imaging to smartphones and is made using semiconductor processes. China-based OEM Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp. Ltd. placed the order for the modules.
DigitalOptics is a subsidiary of Tessera Technologies Inc. In August, the company sold its micro-optics business to Flir Inc. for $15 million.
- Tiny (less than 2 mm in diameter) lenses, beamsplitters and other optical components used, for example, in endoscopes or microscopes or to focus light from semiconductor lasers and optical fibers.
