A new partnership between Sofradir of Châtenay-Malabry, France, and Onera of Palaiseau aims to develop disruptive technologies in IR detection. The five-year project between Sofradir, which makes IR detectors for military, space and industrial applications, and Onera, the French national aerospace and defense research center, will provide OEMs with more highly advanced capabilities in thermal imaging. The innovations will also enable equipment makers to address future expectations in the performance of optronic systems where IR detection is key. The project also aims to accelerate the transfer of Onera’s research to Sofradir for industrial processing. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) will develop an instrument for Teledyne Technologies Inc.’s digital imaging platform for the International Space Station. Partnering with Teledyne’s Huntsville, Ala., subsidiary, Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc., DLR plans to develop and deliver an advanced visual/near-IR imaging spectrometer to be integrated with Teledyne’s MUSES (Multi-User System for Earth Sensing) platform, currently being developed under an agreement with NASA. The instrument will occupy one of the four Earth-looking instrument sites on MUSES, which will be mounted on the International Space Station and which will help advance the state of the art in remote-sensing technology, Teledyne said. The instrument is expected to be operational by late 2015.
