Zecotek Seeks Patent for Crystal Manufacturing Process

SINGAPORE, May 13, 2014 — Zecotek Photonics Inc. has developed a more flexible, less expensive way to manufacture scintillation crystal block arrays.

The enhanced process, which is now the focus of a US patent application, allows manufacturing of the company’s existing lutetium fine silicate (LFS) crystal arrays at various sizes and configurations.

The company’s LFS scintillation crystals offer high light yields and ultrafast decay times. This can lead to faster and higher-resolution operation of medical imaging equipment, including PET medical scanners as well as micro-PET detectors, which are widely used in drug research and gamma cameras for breast and prostate examinations.

LFS crystals are also used in industrial imaging devices, such as those used in high energy physics experiments, in addition to gamma ray detector systems for security, geological surveying, materials analysis, high energy physics and nuclear stockpile monitoring.

They also cover a range of emission wavelengths to match the spectral sensitivity of various photodetectors.
