Sales were mostly steady and profits were better than expected as Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc. closed its fiscal year. Net income for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 was $12 million, up 22.2 percent from $9.8 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013. Sales totaled $146.1 million, down 1 percent from $147.6 million in 2013. Revenue from lasers for macro applications increased by 7 percent to $57.4 million, while revenue from lasers for micro and marking applications decreased by 6 percent to $69.4 million. Components revenue decreased 4 percent to $19.3 million. CEO Gunther Braun said the company plans to debut a new generation of high-power fiber lasers in 2015. “We will continue to see the benefits from new product introductions, such as high-power fiber lasers and ultrashort-pulse lasers, and the use of our products in new applications, such as brittle material cutting,” he said.
