Quantum Materials Begins Shipping of Cadmium-Free QDs

Quantum Materials Corp. has begun shipping cadmium-free red and green quantum dots in evaluation and production quantities to consumer electronics manufacturers. The company said a new facility, equipment and personnel have allowed it to increase the uniformity and enhanced the stability of its QDs. It plans to increase production to 2000 kg per year starting in the second quarter. Electronics manufacturers seeking to stay ahead of environmental regulations are seeking out cadmium-free QDs, the company said. The nanoparticles can be integrated into standard thin-film roll-to-roll...Read full article

    quantum dots
A quantum dot is a nanoscale semiconductor structure, typically composed of materials like cadmium selenide or indium arsenide, that exhibits unique quantum mechanical properties. These properties arise from the confinement of electrons within the dot, leading to discrete energy levels, or "quantization" of energy, similar to the behavior of individual atoms or molecules. Quantum dots have a size on the order of a few nanometers and can emit or absorb photons (light) with precise wavelengths,...
