HAIFA, Israel, Sept. 9, 2015 — Defense contractor Elbit Systems Ltd. has been awarded a $78 million contract to provide an unnamed European country with electro-optical intelligence-gathering equipment for unmanned aircraft systems.

The devices will consist of multisensor electro-optics systems capable of long-range visual intelligence for day and night applications. Adaptable for a variety of airborne applications, the system will serve as a building block for integrated intelligence solutions.

The two-year contract involves Elbit’s Istar division, which focuses on space and time responses for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance markets. The Istar division incorporates the firm's Elop electro-optics subsidiary, its unmanned systems sector and the communications intelligence capabilities provided by Elisra Ltd., a company Elbit acquired nearly 10 years ago.
