OLED developer Universal Display Corp. has announced a collaboration and evaluation agreement with lighting manufacturer Osram Light AG for the sampling of its PHOLED phosphorescent OLED materials for solid-state lighting applications. “Efficacy and color quality are key metrics in lighting,” said Steven Abramson, president and CEO of Universal Display. “Universal Display’s proprietary PHOLED technology offers superior efficiency compared to fluorescent OLED technology, which is a critical feature for energy-efficient lighting.” OLEDs feature an ultrathin form factor and manufacturability on flexible substrates, able to be fashioned into any shape. They can also be transparent, emitting light from both sides of the device. Osram manufactures lighting for applications in the semiconductor field, such as IR or laser lighting, as well as smart and connected lighting solutions in buildings and cities.
