Precision Glass & Optics Components Used for Avotec MRI Device
SANTA ANA, Calif., March 14, 2016 — Glass, optics and coating provider Precision Glass & Optics (PG&O) has announced the customization of two thin-film optical components for Avotec Inc.’s Real Eye Nano high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) accessory.

“In manufacturing the dichroic mirror, we used our cold mirror plate and shaped the optic using waterjet technology, which allows us to produce difficult shapes very affordably,” said Dan Bukaty Jr., president of PG&O. “The lens was created from a right angle prism that we coated per our customers specifications, then precisely shaped using our computer numerical control machine.”
The dielectric cold mirror and cylindrical prism mirror were developed for the Real Eye Nano. The system allows an MRI patient to view a unique visual demonstration concurrently while the patient’s eyes are illuminated with NIR light supplied by an IR LED, fused fiber cable or fiber bundle. PG&O designed and applied the thin-film coating to the large dichroic mirror and shaped its multielement lens.
PG&O is a provider of precision glass, optics and specialized thin-film coatings. Avotec is a developer of MRI systems and accessories.
