Nanosensors Used to Track Progression of Obesity-Related Diseases

According to a New England Journal of Medicine study, more than one third of the world’s population is overweight or obese. And, these weight issues can often lead to other health concerns. Researchers from the University of Rhode Island, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences have created an optical reporter via nanosensor, which is capable of detecting the progression of obesity-related diseases.     An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
