Newport to Adds to Workforce in Wake of Acquisition

CHANDLER, Ariz., Sept. 29 -- Newport Corp.'s acquisition of Unique Equipment Co. -- now called Advanced Automation Systems Group -- earlier this month has prompted the fiber optic component manufacturer to hire additional engineers and technicians. The new employees will be hired to help Newport bolster its ability to develop turnkey assembly and test automation systems for the fiber optic communications industry.
The acquisition of Unique Equipment is pivotal to our advanced automation systems strategy, bringing critical engineering and machine design talent to our operations, said Robert G. Deuster, CEO and chairman of Newport. The Phoenix and Tucson areas are known for their resident expertise in optics and automation technology, and provide a strong talent base from which to grow our Arizona organization. We anticipate a strong demand for additional engineers and other professionals to expand our staff in the coming months.
The Advanced Automation Systems Group uses robotics, lasers and machine vision and precision materials handling systems to design and manufacture automation systems.
