VAUDREUIL-DORION, Quebec, Canada, Dec. 15 -- Alfalight Inc., a start-up company that provides diode laser products for the telecommunications and biomedical industries, netted $43 million in its second round of venture funding. This comes on the heels of the $9.4 million the company picked up in venture funding last May. This second round venture funding was led by Advanced Technology Ventures and included Interwest Partners, Centerpoint Ventures and The Infrastructure Fund, in addition to the original first-round investors led by ARCH Venture Partners in Chicago.
The company is currently in the process of finishing a 15,000-sq-ft packaging facility in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec. Alfalight also has a 20,000 sq-ft facility with a wafer fab in Madison, Wis. The funding will be used to expand and equip the company's facility in Montreal, which will employ 75 people by the end of next year, said Alfalight.
