HAYES, Middlesex, England, March 19 -- CRL Opto, Scipher's liquid crystal display development and licensing business, has won a joint contract, in partnership with Davin Optronics Ltd., to supply CAE with simulator optics sub-systems.
The simulator optics sub-systems include simulated sighting devices, which employ high-resolution microdisplays supplied by CRL Opto. The complete suite of simulated optical devices will be used for the Starstreak Self-Propelled Air Defence Weapon System order recently won by CAE from Thales Air Defence Ltd. (formerly Shorts Missile Systems Ltd.)
CRL Opto RXGA1C (1024 x 768) reflective ferroelectric liquid crystal microdisplays have been integrated into two main systems developed by Davin. The first system is a simulated binocular sighting device and the second is a monocular sighting device that uses a different field of view to the binocular unit. Light from the LED illuminator travels through the Polarizing beamsplitter (PBS) to the RXGA1C, this is reflected back through the PBS and projected through the viewer eyepiece.
"We are pleased to be working with Davin and CAE on this contract and look forward to developing further applications of the RXGA1C with both companies," said Greg Truman, managing director of CRL Opto.
Other applications for the CRL Opto microdisplay include, simulated binoculars, simulated laser range finders, missile trainers, optics/electro-optics R&D, head mounted displays, night vision systems, thermal imaging and holographic displays.
