The Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) in Reston, Va., has disbursed $105,000 in research grants and fellowships to researchers in molecular imaging and nuclear medicine. Funded by the society’s Education and Research Foundation, the awards will support investigators’ independent research projects. Among the recipients is Steve Shih-Lin Huang at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, who received the $25,000 SNM/Mallinckrodt Seed Grant in Molecular Imaging/Nuclear Medicine Research grant to study a ribosome display system for imaging.

At the University of California, Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine, Monica Sala-Rabanal was awarded the $10,000 Mitzi and William Blahd, M.D., Pilot Research Grant to support research on PET analysis of glucose transporter expression. Xuping Zhu of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston received the $10,000 Mallinckrodt Pilot Research grant, for studying the use of PET imaging in Y-90 therapy monitoring. The society presented the $5000 Mark Tetalman Award to Matthew A. Kupinski of the University of Arizona in Tucson for his work in image analysis, characterization and quality assessment. Five researchers received $8000 pilot research grants for other imaging projects. To support students’ full-time participation in clinical and basic research activities, the society also announced five $3000 fellowships.
