$27 Million Military Order

Photonics Spectra
Jul 2010
Display systems manufacturer Kopin Corp. of Taunton, Mass., has announced that it has received a $27 million follow-on production order for eyepieces for the US Army’s Thermal Weapon Sight Bridge program. To be fulfilled over a two-year period, the order supports the continued production of an eyepiece that recently was fully qualified in the program after harsh testing in battlefield environments.

Also known as ocular. The lens system used between the final real image in a visual optical system and eye. It acts as an image magnifier. Many types of eyepieces are known; e.g., the Huygens used in microscopes, the Ramsden in surveying instruments, the Kellner in prism binoculars, and the Erfle in military instruments and wide-angle binoculars.
