AcceLight Announces the First Photonic Service Switch
May 2001
PITTSBURGH, Pa., May 29 -- AcceLight Networks Inc. announced the industry's first core Photonic Service Switch. The product family includes the PhotoniX Core Switch 540 and the PhotoniX Core Manager.
"AcceLight Networks has taken an interesting approach to solving the management and service delivery problems that carriers face today," said Muayyad Al-Chalabi, director of Core Switching & Routing with telecommunications industry analyst firm RHK. "By addressing the challenges associated with combining G-MPLS and Optical and Packet Services, AcceLight allows carriers to scale their networks and cope with the ever increasing traffic demand."
AcceLight's Photonic Burst Switching fabric delivers the massive scalability of optical transmission technology while switching packets, timeslots and wavelengths in nanoseconds. This removes the electrical and slow optical switching bottlenecks once and for all, the company said.
