Amazon will construct a 350,000-sq-ft Amazon Robotics innovation hub in Westborough, Mass., with plans to open it in 2021. The company intends to invest $40 million in the new site to grow its engineering, manufacturing, support, and test teams in the state. The facility will feature corporate offices, research and development labs, and manufacturing space, and will be in addition to Amazon Robotics’ current site in North Reading, Mass.

Headquartered in the Boston area, Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology, including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition, and semantic understanding of commands.
