SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 12 -- Applied Imaging Corp. has received a Smart Exceptional Project grant in the amount of £423,000 (about $680,000) from the United Kingdom's Department of Trade and Industry for the automated detection of micrometastatic cells in bone marrow and peripheral blood. One goal of the program is to develop new methods for faster scanning microscopy in cancer monitoring and detection.
This grant will enable us to develop high-throughput automated systems for finding and characterizing cancer cells in the bone marrow and peripheral blood of cancer patients using the Micrometastasis Detection System (MDS), said Jack Goldstein, Applied Imaging's chairman and CEO. He continued, This will optimize the next-generation MDS for use in laboratories performing large-scale screening of specimens from cancer patients.
