Assa Abloy Acquires Lumidigm

Jun 2014
Assa Abloy AB has purchased Lumidigm Inc. of Albuquerque for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will be accretive to earnings per share (EPS) from the start.

Assa Abloy President and CEO Johan Molin said the move will complement the Swedish company’s products within the biometrics industry.

Lumidigm, a manufacturer of biometric readers based on patented multispectral imaging technology, has provided solutions to ensure robust biometric identification under any conditions since its founding in 2001.

The acquisition also will enable HID Global, a business unit of Assa Abloy, to incorporate multispectral imaging biometrics as part of its multifactor authentication solutions for government, banking and enterprise.

Lumidigm, founded in 2001, is expected to reach sales of $25 million in 2014.

multispectral imaging
Multispectral Imaging: Creation of an image where each pixel contains more than three spectral data points, typically four to 20. This is contrasted with a standard color camera that only captures three spectral data points (called RGB), or hyperspectral cameras, which capture hundreds of spectral data points. Traditional multispectral cameras captured four data points: RGB and an NIR band. Nowadays multispectral cameras are available as commercial off-the-shelf products, with 12 custom bands...
