BIOLASE Acquired by MegaGen Implant
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., Sept. 12, 2025 — Dental laser developer BIOLASE has been acquired by MegaGen Implant, a provider of dental implant solutions, following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last October. The company will be led by MegaGen Implant founder Kwang Bum Park.
Founded more than 35 years ago, BIOLASE introduced industry-leading dental laser systems like Waterlase, which have improved patient comfort and clinical outcomes.
“However, despite the active progress in laser academies and clinical research, BIOLASE has unfortunately struggled with internal management issues,” Park said. “The drive for innovation and developing of more practical technologies diminished while focusing on business operations, weakened quality control and service systems.
“As a clinician, I used BIOLASE, however, due to this disappointing service system, I remained a passive user who used the laser as little as possible,” Park said. “Knowing the potential and vision of laser treatment, I had a steady interest in manufacturing equipment that would surpass BIOLASE’s performance.”
Under MegaGen, BIOLASE will focus on expanding laser treatments to a broader spectrum of natural tooth care.
“We promise to conduct additional research and development to make this a reality, earning more trust and affection from BIOLASE’s customers,” said Park.
MegaGen Implant, established in 2002 by a group of over 70 dentists, has grown into South Korea’s leading dental implant exporter. The company is the largest dental implant exporter to Europe and the United States. The addition of BIOLASE to the MegaGen family boosts the company’s technological capabilities and expands its portfolio.
BIOLASE filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last fall, pursuing a sale process under Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code in conjunction with the filing. The company had been delisted from the Nasdaq in the preceding months.
