Highlights will include:

• BiOS 2015: This technical program, the largest symposium under the Photonics West umbrella, includes 2200 technical presentations in tracks on photonic therapeutics and diagnostics; clinical technologies and systems; tissue optics, laser-tissue interaction and tissue engineering; biomedical spectroscopy, microscopy and imaging; and nano/biophotonics. Technical topics will include enabling technologies for treatment of cancer, stroke, epilepsy, vision loss and more. Featured sessions will begin with the popular BiOS Hot Topics session on Feb. 7.

• LASE 2015: This track will showcase the latest fundamental and applied research on new laser sources and applications. Topics will include basic laser device and materials research; semiconductor lasers and LEDs; device and systems engineering for emerging nanotechnologies; microelectronic, photonic and industrial laser manufacturing; 3-D printing; and free-space communications.

• OPTO 2015: This conference will address the latest developments in a broad range of optoelectronic technologies and their integration for a variety of commercial applications. Many of today’s green technologies, along with enhanced display screens, faster communication and more efficient optical storage devices, sprang from ideas presented at OPTO conferences.

• Green Photonics 2015: This track will highlight papers from OPTO and LASE showcasing the latest photonic and optoelectronic tools and materials that will reduce power consumption, enable cleaner manufacturing and create new energy generation for a broad range of applications.

• Translational Research 2015: This program will highlight papers from BiOS that showcase the latest photonic technologies, tools and techniques with high potential to impact health care.

• Applications of 3-D Printing: This new conference will highlight papers from BiOS, LASE and OPTO that showcase innovative ways to apply this multidimensional/multidisciplinary technology.

The annual event includes industry offerings from business panels to the Prism Awards, as well as two trade fairs. BiOS Expo, which will be held Feb. 7-8, kicks off the Photonics West week with more than 210 companies in the biomedical optics and photonics industries. It will be followed by the Photonics West Exhibition from Feb. 10-12, which will include more than 1250 companies.

GLOSSARY
optoelectronics
A sub-field of photonics that pertains to an electronic device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
