BioMEMS, microdevices
The “Press Monograph” series includes
the 637-page volume Fundamentals of Bio MEMS and Medical Microdevices and
is designed to serve as a text for a single semester course for senior undergraduate
and graduate students, or as an introduction for those interested in or already
working in the field. Chapters cover silicon microfabrication, “soft”
fabrication techniques, polymer materials, microfluidic principles, sensor principles
and microsensors, microactuators and drug delivery, micro-total-analysis systems
and lab-on-a-chip devices, detection and measurement methods, and genomics, proteomics,
DNA and protein microarrays. Such areas as packaging, data transmission and biocompatibility
also are addressed. Charts, diagrams, references, a glossary and an index are provided,
along with a section on common BioMEMS polymers. Steven S. Saliterman; SPIE Press,
Bellingham, Wash.; Wiley-Interscience, Hoboken, N.J.; 2006; $99.
