WEST HILLS, Calif., June 28 -- The Boeing Co. is looking to buy SVS Inc., a company that specializes in electro-optical systems and image processing solutions in Albuquerque, N.M.
SVS would bring critical and specialized capabilities to the company, said Mike Skolnick, vice president and general manager of the Laser and Electro Optical Systems section of Boeing. Not only in directed energy, but also in a wide range of electro-optical controls and image processing applications for both the defense and commercial markets,
SVS Inc. employs 115 people at locations throughout the US. The company has been supplying aerospace, defense and commercial customers with its electro-optical know-how since 1993. SVS is also providing a variety of products and services for some of the US Defense Department's laser programs. Other items on SVS's résumé include providing products such as GeoTrak for satellite imaging, and the Passive Obstacle Detection System to help in aircraft navigation. And SVS was selected by NASA as chief contributor of design options for the Terrestrial Planet Finder mission to help NASA detect planets that are similar to earth in other solar systems.
