CLEO to Promote Innovations in the Laser Science Industry
Returning from a brief hiatus on the East Coast, the 2025 iteration of the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) will make its way back to the golden state at the Long Beach Convention Center from May 4-9. Featuring more than 2000 technical sessions across 29 topic categories, plus plenary sessions, special symposia, and short courses, CLEO 2025 will cover topics from breakthrough ideas to real-world applications in quantum photonics, laser-based manufacturing, and fiber optics.
The annual conference highlights the latest applications, market-ready technologies, and cutting-edge research in all areas of lasers and photonics with six days of technical sessions, tutorials, exhibits, special symposia, short courses, plenary sessions, and other special events.

Plenary sessions will feature talks from leading voices including Alexandra Boltasseva of Purdue University, Daniel J. Blumenthal of the University of California Santa Barbara, Eleni Diamanti of CNRS and Sorbonne University, Laura M. Lechuga of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and Carmen S. Menoni of Colorado State University and XUV Lasers. Topic highlights include Tailorable Materials for Dynamic Photonics and Beyond, Quantum Networking Resources and Applications, and Nanophotonic Biosensors for Ultrasensitive Fast Diagnostics at the Point-of-Need, among others.
This year’s special symposia, which focuses on invited papers in areas deemed to be topical and of special interest to conference attendees, includes topics such as quantum control of mechanical systems, optical computing, photonic integrated ultrashort pulse generators, multimode quantum nonlinear optics, and twistopics for light-matter interactions.
New to CLEO this year is the quantum Science Slam. The in-person special event is designed to promote research topics in an entertaining and educational way, tasking participants to deliver a 10 min presentation on their research that creatively explains it while keeping the tone light, engaging, and accessible. The researcher who can make the audience think, laugh, and learn all at once will walk away with both $1,000 and the title of Science Slam champion.
CLEO will present a global representation of more than 90 participating exhibotors including Edmund Optics, Menlo Systems, IPG Photonics, Thorlabs, Toptica, and many more. The exhibition will feature essential product information and demonstrations to benefit business and research needs. The exhibition hall features a show-floor theater that will host plenary sessions and product demonstrations.
