CoaXPress Developer, Former EMVA President Retires: People in the News: 07/20/22

CARLSBAD, Calif., July 20, 2022 — Ra Medical Systems, a medical technology company focused on developing an excimer laser system for vascular disease treatment, appointed Brian Conn interim CFO, effective immediately. Conn served as a consultant to the company since May. He replaces Will McGuire, who served as interim CFO following the departure of former CFO Andrew Jackson. McGuire will return to his positions as CEO and director of the company. Conn will serve as the company’s principal financial officer and principal accounting officer.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Quantum computing company IonQ appointed Kathy Chou to its board of directors. Chou currently serves as senior vice president of SaaS Engineering at Nutanix, a cloud computing and software company.

TOKYO — Biophotonics company Atonarp appointed Nobel Prize laureate James Rothman to serve on its board as an independent director. Rothman serves as the Sterling Professor and Chair of the Department of Cell Biology at Yale University School of Medicine. He previously served as chief scientist of GE Healthcare and its predecessor, Amersham. Rothman is a recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine and the 2002 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Laser technology and directed energy company Applied Energetics appointed Chris Donaghey CFO and COO, effective Aug. 1. Donaghey joins Applied Energetics from Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), a defense and government agency technology integrator. He is also a founder and executive board member of the Silicon Valley Defense Group.

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — Industrial camera developer Adimec’s co-founder and chief scientist, Jochem Herrman, has retired. Herrman was a developer of CoaXPress, a digital interface standard for machine vision image data transmission, which earned Adimec and its collaborators the 2009 Vision Award sponsored by IMVEurope. Hermann also served as president of the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) from 2015 to 2020. His retirement coincided with the company’s celebration of its 30th anniversary.
