Companies Develop Dense WDM Submarine Modules
SDL Inc. of San Jose, Calif., and Alcatel Optronics of Nozay, France, have produced a high-performance grating-stabilized 980-nm pump module for undersea communications networks. The device, the result of a collaborative project, was unveiled at the 10th Topical Meeting on Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications in Nara, Japan.
Jean-Marie Vansteenkiste, CEO of Alcatel Optronics, said the reliability of the module will make possible 32-channel submarine dense wavelength division multiplexing systems.
