Corning Enters EDFA Fiber Market

CORNING, N.Y., Sept. 13 -- Corning Inc. has launched the expansion of its specialty fiber product line by announcing that it will begin selling erbium-doped optical fiber for use in Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA). The bandwidth revolution is driving development of high-performance dense WDM devices -- all of which need top-quality, highly consistent specialty fiber, said Michael Toro, product line manager for Corning PureMode engineered fiber, Photonic Technologies Div.
The company plans to introduce several new specialty fibers during the next 18 months. Engineered fiber has always been a natural extension of Corning's core leadership in optical fiber and photonic products, Toro said.
